Dakota Winters stood, staring at the small rip in her leather English saddle. It was large, and if you were to look upon it from a distance you would still notice the rip, and this annoyed Dakota. She was thankful she was moving into a brand new stable, own that perhaps promised a place for her to train and stay for the time being. The owner of Shady Beech Stables had seen Dakota ride her filly, Scream Queen in one of the local races. It was a pleasant race and Scream Queen managed to grab the first place spot. Scream Queen, was an attractive chestnut Thoroughbred filly who had a natural raw talent for the race track. She had heard it many times before, her horse was graceful on the track and yet still managed to rip apart the competition. Dakota Winters looked back up at her filly, back to the run down stall and as she packed the bag of clothes and such personal items she owned, she threw her tack and grooming supplies in the back of her small truck. Dakota wished to waste no time, quickly snapping the black leather halter on Scream Queen's face she made sure everything was as it should be. With a quick hand motion she had Scream Queen up in the trailer. Dakota had broken a small sweat, all the work of packing up had gotten to her but the promise of a new home was always too much for her to swallow. Giving a long sigh, Dakota pressed her foot against the gas pedal and moved to the street. Her old home reflected in the mirror, but she had not even the smallest desire to look back. She was moving forward, and she could only hope her jockey license would be able to support her. Until, Scream Queen retired that is. The two year old stuck her face out of the trailer, but quickly withdrew it as a harsh blast of cold air met her in the face.
With a few hundred dollars in her pocket, she prayed she had enough to pay for the first month of boarding. Mr. Pollard had agreed to let her work the horses in exchange for room and board, but she was almost unsure of herself. Dakota had heard a handful of good things about this place, it was the ideal place for her to pursue a serious riding career. Messing with the radio dial, a song she happened to enjoy came on and as she drove the melody made it's way into Dakota's head. "Keep on rockin' to it please don't stop the, please don't stop the music." Dakota nodded slightly and her rich brown eyes caught a glimpse of the light as Shady Beech Stables came into view. Well Dakota, here goes! She made sure she had the truck in park, and as she let her seatbelt weave around her Dakota leaped from the driver's seat. Scream Queen let out a shrill neigh, Dakota motioned for the restless filly to keep her volume down. The last thing she wanted was to be known around here for having the horse that lived up to her name.
Dakota Winters was always a bit of an optimist, but as she walked into the elegant barn she felt a bit too out of her element. "Um, Red Pollard?" She asked into the open air. Dakota felt foolish, no one would hear her over the loud horses and music playing in the barn.

Scream Queen grew uneasy in the trailer, but Dakota knew if she was tied to the trailer she'd manage to break away from the tie. The chestnut filly snorted, the warm air cutting into the air with ease. The fresh October sky smiled down upon the filly, who began to paw at the wet ground with her front hoof. The stable had such a rustic quality to it, a simple stable with the right amount of modern touches to make it complete. Of all the places Dakota had seen, this one had a strange and yet beautiful feel. Dakota sensed the harsh smell of saddle cleaner, she knew the work of tack cleaning was a difficult one but she dealt with it just fine. Back when she started riding Dakota would often find herself cleaning the tack of boarders for a small fee. It was in that manner Dakota met the love of her life, Scream Queen. The filly was a riot in her own sense, but Dakota never rode such a horse as Scream Queen. She loved her name, her color, and the way she always seemed to love winning more than anything. She was glad she had worn her house shoe styled, light brown shoes had she simply had to slip on her feet. Wrapping herself in her jacket Dakota could feel the early fall air brush up against her back. It was a rather cold morning. "I'm Dakota Winters, I believe we met at a race a few weeks ago? I'm the owner of the filly Scream Queen." Dakota nodded, her long and somewhat curly hair messed around in the sudden breezes.
Scream Queen's eyes danced around the scenery, a few horses caught her eye but they expressed no interest in Scream Queen.

Dakota gave a small smile, glad he hadn't managed to forget. She sighed and turned around to face the trailer, Scream Queen never failed to make herself known. Tossing up her her head she looked out the trailer window, wondering where on earth her owner had gone. "That would be Scream Queen, I think I'd better go get her." Dakota trotted over to the trailer, and quickly climbed up inside to where she could reach for her horse's lead rope and pull her out of the trailer. While giving each other the careful glare, Dakota stroked Scream Queen's soft forelock. She slowly lead the rebelious filly to the stable, and in doing so she jerked at the lead rope in order to prevent Scream Queen from becoming even more distracted. New sights, new smells, and a new world awaited Scream Queen.
[Eh, must go to the movies!]

The filly pricked her ears, the smell of new horses had promised plenty of play and excitement. Although Dakota intended to keep a keen eye on her horse she had no protest against her getting to know the other horses. Dakota tugged at the leather lead rope, feeling it's smooth texture against the palm of her hand. Scream Queen hesitated for a brief moment but Dakota was sure not to let her filly have her own way. It did not take them long to find the stall that had been picked out for them, with their names written on a taped piece of paper that was attached to the stall. "Queenie, it's all yours." Dakota soothed and walked the horse inside the stall. She was eager to find out this area's racing schedule, she needed some more money for board and it seemed that winning races was the only source of good cash. Making sure both the feed and water buckets had been nicely filled to suit the horse's needs, Dakota managed to drag all her personal items and tack from her truck. Setting the items on a lump of hay, Dakota Winters brushed off a small bit of straw that had strayed into her hair. The soothing, almost magical environment reminded Dakota of the day she first began her training to become somewhat of a jockey. It felt good, beating the other male jockeys and realizing her dreams weren't too out of her reach. Then, she got her license and it was then that Dakota had found what really did make her happy. Scream Queen was such a talented racehorse, she never failed to thrill Dakota when they rode. Her strides were smooth, and her pace was never slower than the fastest of gallops. Dakota knew one sad day she'd have to retire the girl, but she had so many other types of riding to try out she wasn't too worried at all. Besides, she was sure Red Pollard had some other horses for her to ride. But no other horse, would ever be as sentimental as Scream Queen.
Dakota ran a finger through her messy hair, but she was at least thankful it always seemed to remain in place. Looking around at all the other horses in the barn, she couldn't help but be in pure awe of their beauty. "Lovely horses, are they all yours?"

{Cool, it looks good. I am eagerly awaiting Twlight... that and the new Bond film.} Red Pollard was gazing up the aisle of stables when Dakota asked him. "Yes" he said gruffly. He was eager to get going and see what she'd be like on some of his own steeds. It's all well riding one horse well, but he needed an all rounded rider. "Come on, we'll get you settled and then you can have a go on the other horses." He then turned and walked away.

Picking up her small bag she gave Scream Queen the lat remaing treat she had left. As Scream Queen watched her owner fade into the next barn, all she felt like doing was to observe the fat barn cats sneak around for another bit of mouse to chew on. A black and white female looked up, staring at the chestnut filly. Tossing up her head, Scream Queen snorted and pricked her ears at the strange new creature. Never had she laid eyes on one of these, they looked so strange to her it always spookd her. A few other horses caught her eye, and they all belonged to the people who boarded them here. She wondered if any of them galloped and ran like she did, she also couldn't help but softly nicker towards them.
Dakota was glad she didn't have that much stuff, luckily all her items could fit into her medium sized bag. Following Red, Dakota couldn't help but smile at all the elegant racehorses that looked back at her. "Sure thing." She really didn't have too much to say, but she figured once she got to run on one of the horses she'd feel more at home than she was feeling right now.
[Go James Bond!]

;D Red hurried along as he led Dakota to the farmhouse. Shady Beech farmhouse was rustic old two- story house. Up on a hill, it had character for sure. With it's weather beaten walls of white wood, chipped. It's sloping garden filled with none other than beech trees. They towered over it, like guarding sentries. It was simple yet cosy. With big spacious rooms, filled with bay windows. In the morning at dawn, the first rays of light would filter in lighting up the whole house. It was out of one of those old fairy tale books. It was home, his home. Red loved sipping a beer on the porch at sunset. Or cooking in the morning while gazing over the picture perfect landscape. He could have bought a mansion with a pool and tennis courts, but it'd be nothing but a house filled with rooms. Empty and cold rooms. Not home.

Slowly, Dakota walked along behind him, allowing him to lead the way. As they neared the home, she was surprised on how large and nice it turned out to be. It was much better than the small room she was confined to when she raced the fillies and colts of rich racing trainers. With all the money those trainers had, it was a shame they couldn't pay Dakota like they should have. She took of her jacket and carried it with the rest of her belongings, as she kept on following Red. "Nice place." She smiled, smelling the crisp breakfast air floating around in the home. She could tell the rest of the grooms and stablehands had just wrapped up their eggs and bacon, as dishes were left in the sink and she could still see some of them sipping orange juice. They looked at her as she walked, and Dakota hoped they'd accept her being here. She never did care about what another person thought of her, but she knew she couldn't make enemies just yet.
Dakota spotted some old photographs on the walls, of racehorses, hunter jumpers, and a few three day eventers that seemed to shine with elegance. She sure wished Scream Queen, would someday be honored with her picture being placed on such a wall.

She nodded, "I don't mind at all, I'll be back at the stables in a little while." She noticed his hushed tone and reminded herself to hurry up. Having a roommate didn't bother her much, she just hoped they'd get along without any problems. If anything, that was one of her bigger concerns. Dakota dumped out her clothes, and picked up a pair of jeans with a few tears at the knee, and a clean white tank top. She figured if she got cold she could pull on a jacket. "Alright, I need a shower." Murmuring to herself, she quickly jumped into the shower, washed all the dirt off her body and made sure her hair was washed. Dakota was sure glad this place supplied those things for you. When she got out, she was sure to quickly dress and slip on her English riding boots that fit nicely underneath her jeans. She had a natural beauty about her, but a light layer of powder and eyeliner wouldn't hurt. Brushing the knots that had gathered in her hair, Dakota smiled as her hair always managed to dry with a natural curl. She had faint blond hair, mixed with with dark brunette underneath. It was a natural, rich red with small brunette highlights but she finally got the money to do something for herself, for once in her life.
Closing the door to the room, she saw several riders come in and out. A few of them greeted her, but a select few went on with their jobs and didn't care to offer up a smile. If your still hungry then get something, Red's words repeated in her head as her stomach gave a loud rumble. "I haven't eaten since yesterday evening, outta go get something I suppose." As she slowly trotted down the stairs, she was glad that lunch had just began. Today, was some pasta with delicious French bred. Just like her mother used to make her, way back when she was little. At nearly eighteen, she didn't have many memories of her childhood. Perhaps, it was for her own good. Sitting down at an empty table, she saw several eyes looking at her. They were kind eyes though, and offered a few kind things to say about her hair, her eyes, they seemed to like how glossy they were. Of course, she offered her thanks for being so accepting but it was a few of the riders who sat down who offered the most advice. Dakota knew to be on time, she knew to ride her best, most of the riders trained eventers, a few dressage, and some racers. It seemed Dakota, was one of the only female jockeys she could find. Surely, there were more but she didn't find it at all that important. It didn't matter to her.
She flipped open her jacket pocket and brought out her chap-stick, applying a thin layer to her dried lips. The fresh feeling of peppermint made her forget how chapped her lips had been in the first place. Her body felt new, the shower and food had down her more good than she first thought it would. Dakota Winters was starting over, and it felt better than she ever imagined. Off to the barn! Dakota happily sang to herself, walking out the door and feeling a breeze pick and poke at her hair and face.

{This'll be Dakota's roommate.} Tracy Brighton was mucking out when the girl came into the barn. Hauling horse muck and lifting wheelbarrows was hard work. Tracy unlike most people, didn't mind it. She loved it even. Her life revolved around horses and this was all part of what she loved. Sometimes when life hands you lemons you just gotta take 'em and suck 'em! It was one of her favorite motto's. She worked furiously, cleaning out each stable with care and attention. Her light brown eyes were focused, her eyebrows furrowed as she dumped the wheelbarrow and it's contents on the muck heap. It was then she spotted the new girl. Red had mentioned hiring a new hand, one who was to be her new roommate. Her old one had left when she got a better, more well paying job. 'Good riddance' Tracy thought, the last one was a pain. She hoped the next one wouldn't be so bad. "Hi there!" she said going up to the girl, as she put on a big smile.
